Ship Details: Chemical Tanker 1 - Disp: 44288 t, LOA 182,6 m., B 27,3 m., Draft 10,9 m., Bow Thr. Equipped. FPP
Area: İzmit Bay, Turkey
Scenario: Starting 2.0 nm away from the Pilot embarkation point with a speed of 10.2 knots. The bridge team should be in contact with the Pilot boat and decide the speed of boarding. During the maneuver, ship heading, speed, engine orders, and weather effects can be controlled by the team. Evaluation criteria are communication skills, controlling of the ship by all means, maneuver time, and success of the boarding operation.
Issues To Be Considered: Reduction of speed methods, Engine Orders, Approaching to small boats, Interaction between vessels, Helm orders, Pilot boarding procedures, pilot ladder preparation process
Requirements: STCW Table AII/2; Maneuvers when approaching pilot stations and embarking or disembarking pilots, with due regard to weather, tide, head reach, and stopping distances.
Your vessel is 2.35 nm away from the Mersin port breakwater. The speed of the ship is18,5knt and the heading is 316 degrees. Although the sand bank is still inside of the port area there is a depth dredged to 12,6 m. If your vessel passes the breakwater within 10 minutes, the berth place will be Nr12/13. Otherwise, your berthing place will be selected by the port authority and informed via the Port Control VHF Channel to you. Be careful about the wave and current effects on the ship. You may alter your course for control of your ship’s heading.
